Alibi - Bar & Bites: Comedy in District 3
If you have been to an Out of Pocket show, there is a good chance you have been to Alibi. It is where we put on most of our stand-up nights in Saigon, and this page is the practical guide: where it is, how to get there, what happens on the night and what to bring. What to bring, for the record, is yourself and some money for drinks.
Why we run shows at Alibi
Alibi - Bar & Bites is a bar with a food menu on Võ Văn Tần in District 3, and it has hosted the large majority of our shows. We keep coming back because the basics work: it is in central District 3, and there is food and drink on hand for an audience that needs something to do with its hands while it waits for the punchline.
A comedy show needs less than people think. A microphone, a room that listens and a bar that does not drown out the jokes. Alibi has been our answer to that, which is why most of our shows have happened here.
How to get to Alibi
The address is 93C Võ Văn Tần, Ward 6, District 3. The simplest way to arrive is by Grab, car or bike: search for the venue by name in the app, check the pin against the address above and you are done. If your driver asks, show them the Vietnamese address, 93C Võ Văn Tần, and point at the map. Taxis work the same way.
District 3 is close to the centre, so if you are staying in District 1 this is a short hop rather than an expedition. If you are coming from further out, give yourself extra time. Saigon traffic has its own opinions about 8 PM, and we cannot start the show without you. Well, we can, but you would miss the opening.
What a show night is like
Doors are typically at 8:00 PM and the show begins at 8:30 PM. The format is a local lineup, sometimes with a touring headliner. You get a host, a run of comedians and a couple of hours of stand-up in English. The exact times for every night are on the individual show page, and they are the ones to trust.
Our Alibi shows are mostly pay what you want, which means entry is by donation. Give what the night was worth. If you give over 100,000 VND you usually get free popcorn, a policy that has never once been questioned. Ticketed shows are the exception and have their price on the show page.
Because this is a bar, you can eat and drink while you watch. We recommend ordering before the show starts rather than in the middle of a comedian's best joke, which is the single piece of etiquette we ask for.
Tips for first-timers
- Arrive around doors time if you want a good seat. Sitting near the front is fun but means you might be spoken to.
- The material is adult. There is no formal age limit, but you should know what you are signing up for.
- Check the show page for the night you booked. Occasionally we run a special show at another venue, and the page says so.
- Join the mailing list in the footer if you want to hear about shows early.
